Epilogue
The end of the line doesn't lie within the US, though the beginning does. After crossing the border there are 7 more miles to go. And once there...now what? Reunions with families, celebrations and congratulations. But how different it will all be in the morning when they wake up and realize that there is no more ground to cover. They have arrived.
Returning to the various cities they call home can be a little startling at first. City lights and traffic signals and people in a rush to get somewhere. But not, for the most part, on foot. The average American walks about 350 yards a day, as it turns out. It's almost shocking when you see it written like that. And when you realize a good portion of that is walking to and from your cars. Sometimes into a gym, to squeeze in a few minutes on a treadmill.
Life goes on. Isn't it grand?
